How Kari's law affects YOU, our customer![]() Dear Customer, Kari's law went into effect on February 16th, 2020. It was initiated to protect user's ability to dial 911 in multi-line telephone systems (MLTS), typically found in enterprises such as office buildings, campuses, and hotels. The requirements are outlined in two ways:
Kari's Law and the federal rules are forward-looking and apply only with respect to MLTS that are manufactured, imported, offered for first sale or lease, first sold or leased, or installed after February 16, 2020. The full details of the law can be found here: fcc.gov/mlts-911-requirements. How This Affects YouIf you purchased a system after February 16, 2020, or added new VoIP/Remote phones to your existing system, each telephone needs to be registered with the actual address for that phone so that if a 911 call is made, an emergency response can be made to the proper address. If you have a system installed prior to Feb 16th, 2020, and have moved a phone from your initial facility to a remote home location, you will need to notify our office, so that we can properly register the new address to the system. Depending on which system was purchased, there will be a small cost for an additional e911 registry and DID number assigned. In these situations, we will only pass on the cost that we are charged from our supplier. |
